Carbon dioxide management

Details

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has ratified the Paris Agreement and committed to taking measures to reduce emissions by 130 million tons of avoided CO2 by 2030. Alongside, the Kingdom has rolled out the Vision 2030 which urges to improving efficiency in the industry sectors, promoting renewable energies, and safeguarding the environment and natural resources. The objective of this project is to establish a CO2 emission inventory in KSA to quantify the sources and to assess the feasibility of CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS) in geological formations including win-win technologies such as CO2-EOR in mature oilfields. In simple terms, we seek to connect the CO2 sources to potential sinks.  This project is in collaboration with researchers from King Abdulaziz University and the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
